New Sketch Released in Skerski's Murder Case

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

Philadelphia police have a new arrow in their quiver as they try to track down the man who killed Officer Gary Skerski. They have released a new sketch, and they want you to take a close look.

Police have a better idea of what officer gary Skerksi's killer looks like. He is the man described as taking over Pat's Cafe and robbing the patrons at gunpoint before shooting the father of two.

Witnesses say the gunman was wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap and a jacket. It has "State Property" written across the chest. Chief Inspector Joseph Fox/Philadelphia Police: "It's unique enough that we're hoping someone will recognize it and go, 'So and so wears this all the time', and he'll give us a hollar." Police are also looking into how the robbery and murder at Pat's Cafe fits into a series of hold ups a month ago, all across Northeast Philadelphia, at bars, gas stations, and convenience stores.

During the crimes, pistols and shotguns were used alternately but never at the same time as in the Skerski case.

It's possible the man who killed officer Skerski has had sophisticated weapons training because of the relative ease in which he handled 2 guns. "You get the feeling: #1 he's done this before, #2, he's comfortable with the weapons as he's handling them, and #3 he obviously wouldn't hesitate to use them."
