Delaware Resident Gets $15,000 Utility Bill

Tuesday, June 20, 2006

A utility bill nearly sent a Delaware resident to the hospital.

One month after getting a new gas meter 78-year-old Joe Krakowski of New Castle received a bill for almost $15,000.

What compounded the problem was the utility company also took 2,000 dollars out of his account without his knowledge.

The problems began back in May when an employee entered the wrong information into the billing system and that sent Krakowski's heart into overdrive.

Krakowski said, "I'll tell you my heart was beating. It was beating about as fast as it can I was ready to call 9-1-1." Delmarva power has admitted the mistake and they are working with the Krawkowsi's to get them their money back.
