Memorial Honors Local Victims of 9/11 Tragedy

Sunday, September 10, 2006

America is remembering 9-11... five years later. As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for families who lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks that day.

They lit candles to remember the spirit that still burns bright. "You can make someone happy or you can make someone sad &" And read poems.

For the families of 9/11 victims from Philadelphia, there were many hugs to go around. They came together to unveil a mural - each face, a victim. Elsie Caldwell\WEST PHILADELPHIA: "There's nothing for people in Philadelphia. It's just a small group of us but we still lost loved ones." Elsie Caldwell organized the effort to make the mural. Her son Kenny died in the World Trade Center. Jim Crotty's brother Tom also died there. Jim Crotty: "It just reminds me of what he meant to my life and to my sister in law and what a special father he was to his two girls." Firefighters and police also paid tribute to their fallen brothers in New York. And also to honor Elsie whose indomitable spirit has helped them all.

There were many tears shed, but also smiles. For these families, this mural is their memorial. And their loved ones will never be forgotten.
