Underground Blast Knocks Out Power in NE Philly

Another underground fire and explosion knocked out power to 2,600 PECO customers for a short time on Monday.

The incident happened just before 3:00 pm at the intersection of Bustleton and Unruh Avenues.

One manhole cover in the area blew off and smoke was seen billowing out of it.

PECO reports that one circuit blew effecting residential customers in the area. It is not known what sparked the fire and explosion.

Crews were able to restore power to everyone in about an hour.
