Dann Cuellar's Parade Preview

Thursday, November 23, 2006

For the 8th consecutive year, Dann Cuellar gave Action News viewers his unique preview of the 6abc Boscov's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Dann and photographer Yuri Gershman have worked together to make this preview special, always coming up with something new and a few surprises.

Lisa Thomas-Laury provided this year's surprise ending. The long-time Action News anchor and co-host of the parade announced that she is returning to Action News in just a few weeks. We are very happy and excited about her return after she was forced to leave for medical reasons a few years ago.

That's one wonderful surprise that is going to be tough to beat in the years to come. Dann and Yuri have given us a few treats over the years.

When I was producer of the 11pm news, Dann and Yuri surprised me by trying to get from the end of the float parade to the Art Museum steps before their two minute package ended. They almost didn't make it. Yuri told me later that they accidentally got into the wrong police vehicle, which was providing the escort. They made to the steps just as the package ended.

The next year, they did it again with a twist. This time, a band was waiting for them at the Art Museum steps. Little did we know that Dann would be singing carols at the end of his story.

Artist Chris Prasol got involved last year in helping Dann fly to the North Pole. Chris always does amazing work, and he outdid himself for this year's preview. He spent several days putting together Dann's journey. You can see how he did it by watching the video in our multimedia player.

Dann and Yuri start brainstorming about their parade preview months in advance and they spend many weeks putting it together. Their hard work has paid off once again.
