4 Women Attacked by Center City Rapist

Saturday, November 25, 2006

The hunt is on for a Center City rapist who has already robbed and sexually assaulted at least four women.

The attacks have all happened in or around Center City. Four women robbed at gunpoint and then sexually assaulted.

The first attack happened at 6:15am Saturday near Franklin Field on South Street in University City. A 21-year-old woman was walking when a man walked up to her. He pointed a gun at her and pulled her to a secluded area where she was robbed and sexually assaulted.

On Wednesday night at 7:15, he struck again in the 1700 block of Folsom. This time, the victim was a 55-year-old woman who was getting in her car. She too was robbed and then sexually assaulted at gunpoint.

And Thursday, two women lost the joy of the Thanksgiving holiday when they too were robbed and assaulted. First, a 26-year-old woman walking in the 2400-block of Walnut at 4:45am, and shortly there after just a few blocks away at 25th and Spruce a 42-year-old woman was also robbed and assaulted at 6:15am.

Police say the man engaged in conservation with a couple of them, and in the other cases he walked right up and pointed the gun. They're afraid he might start using it.

This is happening in an upscale neighborhood of townhouses and condos. People live here because they feel safe. But police warn it can be a false sense of security.

Suspect Description

Police say the suspect is a middle aged black man with deep-set eyes and a light complexion. He's about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10. He was wearing a dark jacket and was armed with a black handgun.

Police say he's dangerous and they're warning women to be extra cautious, especially after dark.
