NORTH PHILADELPHIA - December 7, 2006 -- Police say a suspect is in custody in connection with a shooting near the brand new Pearl Theater on North Broad Street.
A 16-year-old boy has been critically injured in a shooting outside a theater in North Philadelphia that had been open just three days. Fighting broke out last night as police cleared out the new 100 (m) million dollar seven-screen movie house.
Police say the 16-year-old was wounded in the thigh and taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in critical condition. His name has not been released, and it's not clear if the shooting had anything to do with the newly opened Pearl Theater.
Officials declined say how many others were arrested in the fighting.
The violence broke out on the second night of a one dollar movie promotion at the theater, the first new movie house in North Philadelphia in six decades. It opened on Monday.
