Eager Rocky Fans Line Philly Streets

Tuesday, December 19, 2006

Good Morning!

You only have 24 hours left before you can finally see "Rocky Balboa", the sixth and final installment of the saga of the Philadelphia boxer. Last night, Sylvester Stallone brought his family to Philadelphia to join other stars from the film for the official premiere.

If you saw Stallone on programs like "Good Morning America" or "LIVE with Regis and Kelly" yesterday, you can see he almost tears up when he talks about saying goodbye to this character. He says Rocky made him a star and he owes everything to him.

And Rocky and Sly are saying goodbye on a high note. Stallone says he got a lot of ridicule for making yet another Rocky and it took some persuading to get the studio to go along. But reviewers are saying it was worth the while.

"It turns out that the added years have only benefit the character, making him seem touchingly new, because he's so old," says Entertainment Weekly.

"Well, whaddya know? It looks like you can teach an underdog new tricks," says the Hollywood Reporter.

Even the snarky New York City press is being kind. "Does Rocky Balboa deliver? Weirdly enough, it does: I was jumping out of my seat during Rocky's bout," says New York Magazine.

In fact, Stallone kind of disses his hometown, New York, when he talks about the movie. He calls the Big Apple impersonal. He says it takes a town like Philadelphia, with its heart and spirit, to give birth to a hero like Rocky.

Yo, Rocky! It was good to know ya and you went out like a champ

See you in the morning,
