February 11, 2007 -- Volunteers at Camden County's Animal Shelter say it's the worst case of animal abuse they've ever seen.
A mixed breed pit bull was brought to the Blackwood Shelter from Camden. The dog is so emaciated it can't eat solid food. He can't be fed intravenously because his heart is too weak.
Volunteers are calling him "Zero" after the skeleton dog from the movie Nightmare Before Christmas.
They believe someone deliberately starved this dog.
The Camden County Animal Shelter has placed Zero in "foster" care: a Franklinville woman who has experience treating very ill animals.
Action News spoke to the caregiver. She says Zero doesn't look any better than he did yesterday, and is having trouble standing up for more than 30 seconds on his own. She hopes to feed the dog with an IV soon.
