Family Seeks Extreme Home Makeover After Accident

Thursday, February 22, 2007

The plea has gone out to ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition to come to the aid of a woman who could really use some help.

39-year-old Maureen DePrince was a letter carrier in Margate and Ventnor.

On July 24th as she stood behind her postal vehicle, she was hit by an alleged drunk driver.

30-year-old Alan Miller was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Maureen lost both of her legs and her eyesight.

What Maureen did not lose in the accident was the love and support of her husband of 13 years, Troy, and a host of friends like former letter carrier Christine Sagnis.

There have been several fundraisers, but right now Sagnis has her eye on ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition.

The DePrinces' Collings Lake rancher was big enough for two, but now there is 24-hour nursing care and a lot of equipment

There's a makeshift ramp outside, and inside Maureen's wheelchair doesn't fit through most doorways or into the bathroom. She must be lifted onto a smaller chair.

A video telling DePrince's story and showing the deficiencies in the house has been prepared and will be sent to the shows producers early next week along with signatures of people from around the country supporting the cause, over 26,000 names so far.

You can add your name to the petition by clicking here.
