WAYNE, Pa. - May 30, 2007 (WPVI) -- Authorities are investigating an apparent incident between two cadets at the Valley Forge Military Academy that ended with one of them stabbed with a pair of scissors.
Authorities tell Action News that it appears some horseplay got out of control Tuesday night in Hocker Hall. At about 10 p.m., when it was supposed to be lights out, two 17-year-old cadets were apparently roughhousing when things went too far. One of them grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed the other. The incident was recorded on video tape.
A medical helicopter flew the victim to Temple University Hospital.
Radnor police arrested the other teen and filed assault charges against him. He's being held at the Delaware County Juvenile Detention Center as both the police and the school investigate.
"At this point we have started an investigation," said Cmdr. Rodney Hill of the Valley Forge Military Academy, "it does appear there may have been some horseplay. Intent is not known at this time."
The stabbing victim suffered a relatively minor injury and he was returning to the campus Wednesday.
The cadets are in the midst of final exam week, but administrators say it doesn't excuse some methods of letting off steam.
"It helps us to reinforce with an incident as serious as this one, or a more minor incident, it helps us to reinforce the leadership and character values that we emphasize here at Valley Forge."
Graduation is set as scheduled for this Saturday.
