2 Survive Plane Crash in Bucks Co.

Wednesday, June 13, 2007

They were headed to Canada to go fishing, but wound up in the hospital instead.

Two men are lucky to be alive after a plane crashed early this morning while taking off from a private air strip in Tinicum Township, Bucks County.

Police said 60-year-old James Specter of Shavertown, Pa. was piloting the single engine Piper Arrow when it suddenly lost altitude just before 6:00 a.m.

The plane clipped some trees as it came down, shearing off a wing and flipping the aircraft upside down.

The pilot and his passenger, 75-year-old Laren Pitcairn, used a cell phone to dial 911, but first responders spent 45 minutes trying to locate the wreckage because of thick fog.

The pilot and passenger were airlifted to St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlethem by a Pennstar medical chopper, which helped in the search to locate the plane.

Police said both suffered only minor injuries. (Copyright 2007 by 6abc and Action News. All rights reserved.)
