Woman Steals, Crashes Police Car

July 30, 2007 (WPVI) -- A woman, 30, who allegedly stole a police car crashed that vehicle after an hour long joyride.

Police say the woman, who apparently suffers from schizophrenia, took the cruiser from the area of Rising Sun and Roosevelt Boulevard around 5:00 p.m.

She also had a 5-year-old child with her at the time, but authorities said she dropped off that child a short time later.

The police cruiser is a Chevrolet Impala. It's number 2-A, which means it is from the Second District.

She eventually crashed that vehicle in the 200 block of Colorado Street just before 6:00 p.m.

Officers converged on that scene, where the woman was taken into custody.
