Zoning Board Considers Controversial Cell Phone Tower

Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Zoning officials in Huntington Valley took on the case of a controversial cell phone tower.

At the heart of the matter is a plan to build a 130-foot tower inside of a cemetery, Shalom Memorial Park.

The phone company, T-Mobile, has the approval of the cemetery owners, but some residents have launched a campaign against the tower.

They said it desecrates the sanctity of the cemetery.

T-Mobile officials said the tower would be unobtrusive, designed to look like a tree.

The board will meet again at the end of October to hear more arguments.
