NEWARK, Del. - November 13, 2007 (WPVI) -- Two servers were stabbed while on the job at a Delaware restaurant. State police say the suspect's infatuation with one of the women led to the violent crime and a shocking statement.
Call this a case of unrequited love gone ballistic. No one at Houlihans realized the level of a waiter's infatuation with a waitress until it took a violent turn last night.
The alleged assailant walked past the media last night while being escorted to a police cruiser. That's when he turned to cameras and said, "I'm proud of what I've done. I'm a (expletive) diabolical killer." "I'm not a psychologist. I don't claim to be, but that gentleman is severely disturbed somehow... I mean people just don't make those kind of statements," said Cpl. Jeffrey Whitmarsh of the Delaware State Police Department. The chilling remarks made by 23-year-old Daniel Yoon pale in comparison to what police say he did inside a bathroom of the restaurant last night. It was there that Yoon allegedly stabbed a19-year-old female waitress with a steak knife from the restaurant when she rebuffed his romantic advancements. Whitmarsh goes on to tell the press, "She told him that she had just gotten out of a relationship and everything. A girl sometimes tells a guy to get him to go elsewhere. And in this case he didn't heed the message and it simply just set him off and last night he went on a rampage." The rampage was stopped only after another quick thinking waitress pulled Yoon's bloody victim inside of this handicapped stall and locked the door. Restaurant manager Chris Farwell condoned the actions of the second waitress by saying, "The way she acted and reacted... she could not have handled it any better as the rest of the staff did." Yoon lives with his parents. His neighbor did not want to give her last name saying, but said, "I was floored, and I mean I knew he was different. I knew he was whatever, but I never expected something like this." Daniel Yoon has been charged with attempted murder. The waitress who was the target of his advancements is still in the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The waitress who rescued her was treated and released. Customers returned to Houlihans today despite yesterday's violence.(Copyright 2007 by Action News and 6abc. All Rights Reserved.)
