Fight with thief caught on tape

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - March 10, 2008 (WPVI) -- Employees had something in store for a robber who tried to hold up their dollar store. And the entire ordeal is immortalized on surveillance video.

It happened Friday evening around 5:30 at the Dollar Plus store located in the 2300 block of N. Broad Street.

The suspect approached the counter and showed the cashier a demand note asking for money. The employee gave the suspect $100 from the cash register, but that apparently wasn't enough. The suspect put the money into his pocket, then jumped over the counter taking the remainder of cash from the register.

A witness who was in the store at the time and an employee grabbed and struggled with the suspect. The thief managed to get away with roughly $400 in cash, leaving his black jacket behind.

There were no injuries to either the witness or the employee.
