Firefighters in Gloucester County battled a fire that broke out in several storage containers next to a residence in Washington Township early Sunday morning.

Police and firefighters were called out to 5 Walnut Avenue around 12:50 a.m. after receiving 911 reports of a fire in the rear of a residence and several people running from the scene.

Several of the containers contained propane tanks, which hampered firefighting efforts.

Authorities tell Action News that apparently there was a party being held at the residence when the fire broke out and several juveniles attending the party ran from the scene.

At least a dozen storage containers were in flames when fire crews arrived.

Firefighteres were able to get the fire under control at 1:36 a.m.

County HAZMAT was called in because of the chemicals found in some of the containers.

There were no injuries or evacuations.
