Featured in Disney's Fantasia, the "Pastoral" Symphony paints vivid scenes of gathering thunderstorms, wandering brooks, and breezy country sides. Both Webern's Passacaglia and Berg's Wozzeck received their U.S. premieres in Philadelphia as part of Stokowski's vision for 20th-century music. Barbara Hannigan stuns audiences with her dramatic portrayal (and provocative costuming) in scenes from Ligeti's thrilling opera, Le Grande Macabre. Simon Rattle conducts.

"Four at the Shore" Treasure Hunt

Now SIR Tom Jones, his live shows still draw a crowd and he's bringing his fans' favorites to TLA on South Street Friday night.

The Friday and Saturday after the Dad Vail Regatta...mainly for college-age competitors and up...brings more rowing competition to Fairmount Park. The Stotesbury Regatta is for high school-age competitors, and , typically, about 5,000 show up from the world over. It's the oldest and largest event of its kind in the world. As with the Dad Vail, detours will be in place along the river drives, and the grandstand, about two miles above Boat House Row, would be the best place to watch. Fans may bring lawn chairs and set up there or anywhere else along the route.
