Sneaker fans step out for new kicks - Philadelphia News

Tuesday, August 05, 2008

Sneaker fever has taken over Center City.

People camped out at Center City's Ubiq store.

The sneakers they have been waiting for went on sale Tuesday afternoon. These shows are called Air Force One and created by The Roots' ?uestlove.

There was limit for those lucky few who bought sneakers - one pair per person and there are less than 300 of the green, red and gold sneakers in the world.

While some did plan on wearing the sneakers, others were thinking of how much money they would get by selling them

The drummer with the Philly-based hip-hop group The Roots designed these coveted kicks. There are two models, each going for about $235. There are only about 25 pairs available of the ones with the gold material in front. That s why there were a huge line of people waiting for days and nights to get their hands on the limited edition.

For people who don t like lines, there s always eBay.

But you ll have to fork over a pretty penny, as starting bids are at $600. If you don t want to wait, you can have them but get ready to pay $1,000 for this one-of-a-kind footwear!

These expensive specialty sneakers are actually only being sold in three cities. They went on sale in New York August 1, Philadelphia August 5, and Los Angeles August 6.
