WILMINGTON, Del. - October 28, 2008 (WPVI) -- There was no room at the inn for the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night, and it's happened to the World Series team visiting Philadelphia in the past!
The Hotel DuPont is by far one of the swankiest hotels in town. Famous actors and entertainers have stayed here before. Now, a Major League Baseball team is in the house, all because of what happened at Citizens Bank Park Monday night.
Only Action News was there when rain soaked members of the Tampa Bay Rays arrived at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington. The team was staying at the Westin in Center City, but had checked out before heading to the ball park Monday night. When the rain finally forced the game to come to a halt in the middle of the 6th inning, team officials discovered there wasn't a bed in town for the Rays. That's when the decision was made to travel south to Wilmington.
This isnt the first time Phillies opponents had to hit the road.In 1993, the Toronto Blue Jays weren't expecting to face the Phils in the World Series, so there were no rooms booked for the team in the City of Brotherly Love. They ended up staying at the Marriot in West Conshohocken. A banner welcomed the Phillies opponents back then, but at the Hotel DuPont there was no time for that. Still, the weary players were no doubt happy to get a bed in a top-rated hotel just 25 miles away from Citizens Bank Park.
