Capano ends appeals of murder conviction

Monday, December 08, 2008

The Thomas Capano case is over.

Thomas Capano told his lawyer to let a deadline pass last month without filing an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. That was his last legal chance to overturn his 1999 conviction for killing Anne Marie Fahey.

Capano, found guilty for the 1996 murder of 30-year-old Fahey, will spend the rest of his life in prison with almost no hope of parole.

At trial, prosecutors convinced a jury that Capano, now 58, shot Fahey in a jealous rage because she wanted to end their affair, and that he tried to cover up his crime by dumping her body in the ocean with help from his brother.

Fahey's body was never found.
