UPDATE: Meet Marine's webcam baby

LANGHORNE, Pa. - December 19, 2008 (WPVI) -- A new father saw his son's birth from far away.

Sarah Maywhort couldn't hide the magnitude of these precious moments.

Overnight, she gave birth to her first child, but thanks to technology, she wasn't nervous.

"I think it's the webcam, having him here, I think if I was by myself, I'd be nervous," Sarah said.

Her boyfriend and father to be, Lance Corporal Dan Thompson, who's serving in Iraq, was able to see the birth of his son.

St. Mary Medical Center set up a laptop and a webcam, allowing the 23-year-old to watch his son be born.

"I'm just pretty excited I'm going to be able to see everything. Being over here, I didn't think I was going to be able to see anything," Dan said before the big event.

"I didn't expect all of this at all, so we're pretty lucky. It worked out," Sarah said.

The couple found out about their bundle of joy just three weeks before he was deployed.

Sarah says it's been rough, but like they're doing now, they've figured out how to make it work together.

"We've been sending him pictures and videos.. He has ultra sounds and belly pictures so he's up to date," Sarah said.

The baby boy is named Zachary Brian.

Dan picked it out, but he won't say why just yet, he's waiting until he can see Sarah again in person.

Lance Corporal Dan Thompson is not expected back here in the states for several months so it looks like he'll continue to watch his son grow via the Internet.
