Teacher faces sex with student charge

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Curtis Key

A former teacher waived his preliminary hearing in court Thursday morning.

Officials say thirty-eight-year-old Curtis Key admitted to having a sexual relationship with a male student.

Haverford School District officials say the district school board accepted Key's resignation during a board meeting on December 18th. They had no further comment. Key is charged with corruption of a minor.

He was released after posting bail.

According to court documents, in October 2008 a student, who was then 16 years old, approached the teacher and told him he had feelings for him.

The teen told police he and the teacher started corresponding over the internet and arranged to meet secretly.

The Haverford junior said he went to Key's home in Wayne about every other week to engage in sexual relations.

When rumors started circulating at the school, police began an investigation.

When Key was arrested at his home Thursday, he provided a written statement that read, in part: "I know that I should not have been involved with the juvenile male but the attention he gave to me made me overlook the inappropriateness, naively."
