Arrest in school heroin incident

Thursday, February 05, 2009

A father has been arrested after a child brought heroin to a Philadelphia school.

Police say 35-year-old Robert Parks of the 1700 block of South Taylor Street has been arrested.

He's the father of a boy who brought heroin packets to McDaniel Elementary School at 1800 South 22nd Street on Tuesday.

In all, five second graders were exposed to the heroin.

The children were taken to Children's Hospital of Philadlephia to be examined after the incident.

It's believed only one child opened packet and tasted it. His mother says he immediately spit it out.

Parks has been charged with reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, and drug offenses.

McDaniel students were sent home with a letter, informing parents about the heroin incident.
