Adults busted after underage drinking party

Thursday, April 23, 2009

Police say she was a party mom who needs a chaperone herself. She and her boyfriend are accused of hosting a beer bash for an extremely young crowd: 14- and 15-year-old kids.

The party was held at this house on Woodcrest Avenue in Jenkintown.

Police say 45-year-old Kathleen Tompkins hosted a beer bash for her 15-year-old son and his friends from Abington Junior High School. She allegedly draped curtains over the basement windows so no one could see inside.

Earlier in the day, police say word of the party had spread through school and officers were alerted. When they showed up at the house they were met by Tompkins' former boyfriend Daniel McIntyre who claimed the kids were just watching television.

Later when police found a drunk kid stumbling down the street they went back to the house. Inside they found about a dozen kids who'd been drinking beer from a keg. One of them was so intoxicated he had to be taken to the hospital.

Tompkins has agreed to turn herself in Friday. Police went looking for McIntyre at his home in Dresher but he turned himself in later and was arraigned on several charges. He says he had nothing to do with the party. The District Attorney says McIntyre was there for the party and even showed the kids how to pump the keg correctly. Authorities say this case should go out as a warning to all parents during the prom and graduation season.
