MIDDLETOWN, Del. - June 17, 2009 (WPVI) -- There's something special going on at one Walmart store in Delaware.
In Middletown 76-year-old Edward Money has been a priceless addition to the store that just opened last October. Since then, customers come not only to shop but to see and hear Mr. Ed sing and cheer.
"I think he's wonderful, being a senior citizen, and I'll be one soon. I think it's great they have a place here and still share the joy," said Pam Price, a customer of the new Walmart.
Edward tells us, "I just love people and i just love working here at Walmart. I just love to greet the people and make people feel good."
Mr. Ed, an ex-Army man, puts a smile on the faces of most of the people he greets.Store customer Rick Hager says, "It makes the day a lot better, walk in with a greeting like that. You can't be in a bad mood when you come shopping."
Another customer, Tyler Andrews said with a laugh, "You can hear him all around the store and you can hear him no matter where you go. I'll go outside in the parking lot and I can hear him in my car."
Mr. Ed started singing Christmas carols at Walmart and once he realized he was a big hit... well, he's never stopped.
"I got some customers that only come here when I'm working and they get mad when I'm not here," says Ed.
Yes, some would say Mr. Ed even beats Walmart's low prices... and that's just fine with his boss, store manager Edna Hughes, who loves the way her one of a kind greeter keeps customers coming.
Hughes says, "They hear him sing and they just smile. They just absolutely love it and they always comment and always comment and get these letters from the customers and they absolutely adore having him here."
