Del. man killed by boat propeller

Boating accident

A Delaware fish and wildlife official says a man from Bear died after he fell out of a boat near Bowers Beach and was hit by the motor's propeller.

Fish and Wildlife division spokesman Sgt. Gregory Rhodes says 51-year-old Barry Temple was sitting in the rear of the 14-foot cabin motorboat Thursday with another man when it hit a wave and Temple fell overboard.

Rhodes says the second man tried to control the boat, but it circled around several times before the propeller hit Temple.

Authorities say Temple was flown to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover, where he died.

Rhodes says investigators don't believe the accident was alcohol related.

Officials say this is the first boating-related fatality in Delaware this year.
