Sixties teen idol Bobby Rydell has been charged with driving under the influence following a minor crash last month outside Philadelphia.

Lower Merion Police Capt. Bill Boegly says Rydell's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal driving limit at the time of the Aug. 17 crash. A summons was mailed to Rydell and a court date is set for Nov. 19.

Police say Rydell's 1969 Bentley jumped a curb and struck a wall in Narberth. No one was hurt.

Rydell has said that he had a couple of cocktails at lunch that day but wasn't impaired.

A telephone number for Rydell could not be found Tuesday and it wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Rydell had hits including "Wild One" and "Volare" and appeared in the 1963 movie "Bye Bye Birdie."
