Police: SWAT team fatally shoots man

CLAYMONT, Del. (AP) - October 8, 2009 -- New Castle County Police say members of the SWAT team fatally shot a 20-year-old Claymont man who pointed a handgun at officers.

Officers went to the Fieldcrest Apartments in Claymont around 6 a.m. Thursday to arrest a man wanted in a shooting. When officers executed a search warrant at a home there, police say SWAT officers encountered a man with a gun.

Police say the man, believed to be the man sought in the search warrant, failed to respond to officers' orders and they shot him.

The man was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he died.
