LANSDOWNE, Pa. - October 16, 2009 (WPVI) -- Students in Delaware County danced the dreary day all in an effort to give back to their school.
The Dance-a-thon started bright and early at 9:00 a.m and the students were still boogying down, well into the afternoon. All the kids, from kindergarten through eighth grade, were at the dance to support their school.
"We're trying to promote school spirit and we were talking about fundraisers for the school, to get everyone excited about the school we're in, and we're very thankful to be here," art teacher Liz Coats said.
The children collected pledges from friends and family for this unique fundraising event.
Plenty of free dance time here at the Dance-a-thon, but every grade also learned a special choreographed dance.
Each grade performed their dance, and then invited everyone else to join in. The 7th and 8th grade girls learned a dance that you might recognize from the movie "Slumdog Millionaire."
Their weeks of hard work and preparation paid off, because the dance was a big hit!
"Once they saw the 7th and 8th grade the whole school got psyched and excited about the Dance-a-thon," math teacher Lisa Abate said.
Today's Dance-a-thon was more than just a fundraiser for St. Philomena.
It was a chance for all the school children to come together for one good cause.
