NEWARK, Del. - October 30, 2009 (WPVI) -- Investigators say a man stole a car from Newark, Delaware then put it up for sale on the internet.
Police say the car was stolen in the early morning hours of August 1st from the 600 block of Scholar Drive in the University Courtyard Apartments.
The car, a 2003 Toyota Camry, had been left unlocked, police said, and the 21-year-old driver kept a key in the center console.
About one week later, the car was posted for sale on eBay.The seller was contacted by police, who said he bought it off someone through the website Craigslist.
Police traced that ad to Craig Cunha, 18, from 11 Peach Road in Elkton, Maryland. Police say he, and a 17-year-old co-conspirator from Lebanon, Pa., orginally intended to steal from unlocked cars. However, when they found a key inside the Camry, they decided to steal it.
The ad was posted on Craigslist the same day, and was sold for $600.
Cunha was arrested on October 27. He has been released on bail. Police expect the 17-year-old to surrender this weekend.
