Car crashes into tree, catches fire

A crash overnight in Tacony section has sent two people to the hospital.

According to investigators, a 30-year-old male driver of a Buick lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree in the 4100 block of Levick Street in the Philadelphia's Tacony section around 3:30 a.m.

The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to burst into flames trapping the driver and a 28-year-old female passenger inside

Neighbors armed with fire extinguishers helped to battle the flames until firefighters arrived.

The driver of the car was taken to Temple Hospital with multiple injuries and extensive burns and is listed in critical condition. The female passenger was also taken to Temple and is in serious condition.

There is no word on what exactly caused the driver to crash in to a tree at this time.
