Stolen special needs van found

Monday, November 09, 2009

Dan McBride's specially equipped van and Rascal scooter were stolen from him.

A special needs van, reported missing over the weekend, has been found in Philadelphia.

It was located Monday morning in the 8200 block of Frankford Avenue.

A Rascal scooter that owner Dan McBride uses to get around was also inside at the time of the theft. Fortunately, it was still inside the van when it was recovered.

It's not yet clear if there was any damage to the van. It has hand controls on the front dash and a lift in the back that enabled McBride to get his scooter in and out.

The van was stolen from in front of McBride's home on Meridian Street in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia.

It was stolen between midnight and 4:00 a.m. on Sunday.

"I could never do that to somebody, climb into a car and climb around the equipment and not be affected by that. It's just wrong," Dan said after the theft was discovered.

An investigation continues into this case.
