CHERRY HILL, NEW JERSEY - November 11, 2009 (WPVI) -- A 2-alarm fire at a South Jersey condominium complex has critically injured two residents, damaged 16 units and left 24 people homeless.
The fire broke out at about 2:05 on Wednesday morning at the Woods condominium complex at 1110 Hickory Circle in Cherry Hill.
When firefighters arrived they saw flames and smoke spitting out of a number of units and were told two people were trapped inside.Firefighters managed to pull the trapped persons from first and second floor units.
The injured -- a woman in her 50s and man in his 60s -- were both taken to Cooper Hospital.
The woman is in critical condition with burns.
There's no word on the man's condition. He suffered burns and smoke inhalation.
Cherry Hill Fire Chief Robert Giorgio said some firefighters were injured fighting the blaze, but their injuries are minor.
It took about 45 minutes for crews to gain control of the fire.
Four of the units are gutted. 12 other units have smoke and water damage.
Investigators are looking for the cause.
