New Castle County police say a 43-year-old man who shot at his stepson before being put into a choke hold by the teenager has died.

Police announced Jeffrey Mace's death Friday afternoon. Mace was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital Wednesday.

His death has been classified as a homicide, but no one has been charged.

Police said the teen choked Mace until he lost consciousness after the man shot at him during an argument. On Monday, police went to the man's home on Gardwood Drive near Bear around 1:30 a.m. Monday for a report of a shooting.

After the man missed with the gun, police said his 18-year-old stepson put him in a choke hold and the mother took the gun away.
