Wind causes fire havoc in Harlem

Saturday, November 14, 2009

Blustery weather caused major problems for firefighters battling a high rise fire in Harlem.

Flames broke out in a 7th floor apartment at Colonial Park Houses on 8th Avenue and 155th Street on Friday evening.

Because of high winds, firefighters had to use a special sheet called a wind blanket to cover windows so drafts couldn't feed the flames.

Ten people were injured. Two of them were firefighters. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt.

The family living in the apartment where the fire started was relocated, but everyone else was allowed to return home.
