PHILADELPHIA - March 27, 2012 (WPVI) -- Police have released the name of the man arrested for allegedly slashing tires in Philadelphia.
Quincy Kramer, 20, of the 3300 block of Englewood Street in Philadelphia, was arrested on Monday for his alleged involvement in the slashing of nine tires in the 3300 block of Cottman Avenue, police said.
Kramer's bail is set at $45,000 - that's $5,000 per tire.
Police tell Action News that Kramer is the man seen in surveillance video released late last week.
That surveillance video was captured around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday in the area of Cottman and Rowland avenues. The man seen in the video walks up and slashes the right rear tire of a Cadillac with an unknown object before walking off.
Kramer lives right around the corner where that surveillance video was captured. Police say he was targeting his own neighbors.
Philadelphia Police Captain Jack McGinnis said, "His motive was he just felt like doing something. And he went out and did this."
Hundreds of tires have been slashed in the area over the last few months. Frustrated victims were delighted to hear that police finally arrested a suspect.
Jennifer Nagele of Mayfair tells us, "I'm very happy. I'm happy that it will stop and that we don't have to look out our windows every morning to make sure our car tires aren't slashed& So, I hope he gets what he deserves."
However, police believe Kramer may have been a copycat. They say the more prolific tire slasher is still out there and that residents of the neighborhood should not let their guard down.
Sources say Kramer has allegedly given a statement to police admitting his involvement, and police say they have recovered quite a bit of physical evidence at his home.
"We went in; we searched the house; we recovered the clothing he was wearing in the video tape, which was very distinctive, especially the jacket he was wearing, the sneakers he was wearing. We also recovered two knives," explained Captain McGinnis.
Police say one of those knives is the knife he used to slash those nine tires at Cottman and Rowland.
Police say Kramer will be charged with criminal mischief and vandalism - both misdemeanor charges. However, police say the person responsible for most of the tire slashings, when caught, will face felony charges.
