Mail truck driver hospitalized after crash

NEWPORT, Del. - August 6, 2012 (WPVI) -- A mail truck driver is hospitalized after crashing his truck in Newport, Delaware.

It happened shortly before 9:00 p.m. on the off-ramp from southbound I-495 to southbound I-95.

Reports indicate the driver, for reasons yet to be determined, failed to negotiate the off-ramp, went down an embankment and crashed into an overpass.

The driver had to be extricated from the wreckage and was transported to Christiana Hospital for care.

Officials say his injuries do not appear life threatening.

Traffic along southbound I-495 was reduced to one lane and the off-ramp for Newport was closed for the investigation.
