Trial begins in 'Kensington Strangler' case

PHILADELPHIA - August 13, 2012 (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police have testified that a man confessed to choking three women in a series of sex-related stranglings that terrorized the Kensington neighborhood.

But a defense attorney is trying to get the statements thrown out. The lawyer questions whether murder suspect Antonio Rodriguez was notified of his rights and if police had the proper warrants.

Two police detectives read graphic confessions from Rodriguez at a court hearing Monday. It will continue Tuesday.

The so-called "Kensington Strangler" case involves the 2010 deaths of three women who had struggled with drug addiction. Rodriguez says the women agreed to sex.

In the statements, he portrayed one death as an accidental consequence of rough sex. But Rodriguez also indicated he choked the other two women even as they struggled against him.
