Wrapping up the Made in America concert

PHILADELPHIA - September 3, 2012 (WPVI) -- Crews were out early Monday cleaning up along the Ben Franklin Parkway following Sunday night's Made in America concert.

The Action Cam was on the scene as workers began the concert cleanup.

Jay-Z's star studded concert brought tens of thousands of people to Philadelphia.

Mayor Nutter is not saying how much the city shelled out to host the two-day event. Nor is he ready to call it a financial success for the city.

But, he said, ""The promoters/producers are paying the lion's share of those costs and certainly we're trying to keep those costs down as much as possible. As soon as we have that information, all of that will go out to the public."

Organizers are reportedly satisfied with the size of the audience, about 74,000 paid customers, even though they were hoping for 100,000.

The mayor says when you consider the publicity that comes with stars like Jay-Z and Pearl Jam and the fact that the Labor Day Weekend is usually slow city hotels and restaurants, the event was certainly a winner.

"If you're one of those bars or restaurants or hotels, occupancy was up and room rates were up, too. So certainly there was a big financial impact for many of those businesses," said Nutter.

We spoke with a few concert-goers who said from a music-lover's perspective, Made In America was a top-notch production.

"The music was fantastic, the artists were great. Jay-Z was fantastic. Pearl Jam rocked the second night. It was great," said Nick Funchion of Philadelphia.

"The stages weren't too far apart. The water tents and restaurants and beer stations were placed well. I just thought it was a very well-organized event," said Sean Sewell of Richmond, Virginia.
