Kidnapped Upper Dublin boy found in Overbrook
UPPER DUBLIN, Pa. - September 5, 2012 (WPVI) -- The search continues for the masked men who abducted a young boy after assaulting his father outside their home in Montgomery County.
Philadelphia Police say three armed men are responsible for the abduction of a two year old boy, and they remain on the loose Wednesday night.
Southwest detectives are assisting Upper Dublin Police with their investigation.
They are still looking for the three masked men who abducted the 2-year-old boy and the car they stole from his father when they made their getaway.
Tymire Dior Smith was reunited with family Wednesday after he was abducted last night.
The child and his father had returned to their home, an apartment in building 400 at the Woods Apartments on the 1400 block of Butler Pike in Ambler around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night.
They were getting out of their rental car to go inside when three masked men approached and flashed a gun.
"He did not know who they were. He had no way to identify them. He fought to try to retain his child, and put up a good fight," explained Deputy Chief Lee Benson from the Upper Dublin Police.
But the suspects took the child and the rental car. Police put out an Amber alert.
A police source says Tymire and his father moved to the Ambler apartment complex from West Philadelphia just a couple weeks ago.
Around 4:10 a.m., a Philadelphia police officer checked out a few possible locations known to the boy's family and found the child at 66th and Malvern in West Philadelphia.
"The boy was found just wandering," said Chief Benson. "A very alert Philadelphia police officer had an idea where he might turn up and went to that location, and sure enough that's where he was."
Just last week, police investigated the abduction of a 24-year-old woman not far from where the Tymire was found Wednesday morning.
Police believe that case was drug-related and arrests have been made.
Police are still looking for the rental car stolen from Tymire's father. It is described as a new dark-colored Chrysler 300 with PA license plate HYJ-6836.
Tymire was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as a precaution and released to a relative Wednesday morning.
A source says Tymire's father is known to police and has prior arrests for dealing narcotics. They are strongly considering the possibility that may be a factor in why he was targeted Tuesday night.
