Motorcycle tribute honors fallen Montco officer (PHOTOS)

PLYMOUTH TWP., Pa. - September 17, 2012 (WPVI) -- It was an extraordinary show of support for the family and colleagues of slain Plymouth Township Police Officer Brad Fox Monday night.

Hundreds of bikers rode from the Police Academy in Northeast Philadelphia to the Plymouth Township Police Department.

Under a large American flag hoisted by two fire truck ladders, an endless sea of motorcycles rode to the Plymouth Township police station to pay homage to fallen hero Brad Fox. Hundreds of residents, many waving American flags, greeted them as they made their way through.

The motorcyclists, who belong to a number of clubs and groups, assembled at the Philadelphia Police Academy in Northeast Philadelphia.

Chopper 6 captured the mile-long procession as the riders made their way to Plymouth Township. Among those taking part in the ride was Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Seamus McCaffery, who is a member of the Marine Corps retired leathernecks motorcycle group.

"We're talking about an American hero," he said, referring to Fox. "I mean, Iraq, Marine Corps, law enforcement. Nothing but community. All he cared about was his family and his community."

Earlier in the day, Officer Fox's widow and other family members got a chance to see his patrol car, which was adorned with black bunting.

At one point, she tenderly kissed the patrol car. Understandably, officials say, she and Fox's family members are going through a very tough time.

"They've been through a difficult time. But they wanted to be here to see this," Plymouth Council Chairman Sheldon Simpson told the crowd. "And I think they are overwhelmed by the support of the community."

Mike Duffy is one of the organizers of the motorcycle ride.

"We want the officers and the family to know there are a lot of people who care. We are here for them, we support them and we are sorry for their loss," said Duffy.

The officer's family and police department were taken aback by the large group that turned out to support them.

"It's overwhelming, the support we have from the community, both the law enforcement and civilian community. It's overwhelming. It's breathtaking," said Plymouth Township Police Chief Joseph Lawrence.

So in their own way, people from across the region wanted to pay tribute to this heroic officer, Brad Fox, who had served two tours in Iraq as a marine before making their ultimate sacrifice as a police officer here at home.
