Scene cleared after Germantown police incident

Tuesday, October 02, 2012

Police activity led to the evacuation of several businesses along Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia's Germantown section Tuesday morning.

Authorities were called just before 9:30 a.m. to a former Social Security office, located near the intersection of Germantown and Haines avenues.

After about a half hour, authorities deemed the situation under control and cleared the scene.

During the investigation, local businesses were evacuated and nearby Germantown High School was placed in lockdown as a precaution.
