NEW CASTLE, Del. - October 8, 2012 (WPVI) -- A Wilmington woman is dead after being struck by a forklift in a New Castle recycling center.
The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Robin Godfrey.
Police say an employee of Eastern Metal Recycling was using a Toyota gas-powered forklift inside of the business.
The employee used the forklift to place a large metal container on the ground and then got off of the forklift.
The forklift, however, began to roll backwards.
Authorities say the employee jumped back onto the forklift in an attempt to regain control, but was unsuccessful.
The forklift struck Godfrey, a customer at the business, pinning her against the building's wall.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident.
