SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - January 19, 2013 (WPVI) -- After more than 100 days in an NHL lockout, Flyers' fans were pumped to finally start the season.
"It was absolutely amazing to be back here and to see all the crazy fans," said Courtney Stone.
"They were so excited. It was so loud in there, it was great," said Julie Wydro.
Orange and black filled Chickies and Pete's in South Philadelphia. The restaurant full of fans was equipped with high energy and passion.
"I didn't expect to see this many people here, it's great to see people excited, I'm excited," said Mike Beterson.
However after the Flyers' defense gave up two goals in the first period, the frustrated group turned critical.
"Right now it's disappointing with the defense and goal-tending. Bryz let in a pretty weak goal," said Matt Harner.
Joey Broderick thinks his show of support at the Wells Fargo Center helped rally the team to a stronger finish.
"It helped, the fans liked it," said Joey Broderick.
Even so, the Flyers fell short to the rivaled Penguins 3-1.
"It's disappointing to lose, especially to the Penguins," said CJ Lorenzo.
"Very rough first period but they picked it up towards the second," said Phil Wydro.
"They came out hard the second period and the third period looked good, it was just disappointing with the power play at the end. We were sitting on the edge of our seats," said Ted Elder.
The disappointing loss did not deflate the upbeat spirits of the thousands of fans who left the Wells Fargo Center still hyped that their favorite Philly sports team is back in business.
"We've been waiting for the lockout to be over and to come to the game, we didn't know if we could make it but it's really exciting to be back," said Danielle Iannone.
Despite the loss many fans are just happy that hockey is back.
