Minor fire in North Philly causes temporary evacuations

Monday, March 18, 2013

Officials say a minor fire at a North Philadelphia high-rise apartment building forced the temporary evacuation of residents early Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. on the 2400 block of North 11th Street.

Crews were called to the 18-floor Philadelphia Housing Authority building after a report of a fire in a trash chute on an upper floor.

The building had to be evacuated for a short time before residents were allowed back in their apartments.

Medics arrived to the scene and one resident was evaluated in the lobby.

The fire was placed under control just before 3:00 a.m.
