Canada's "Cirque du Soleil" is coming to town

PHILADELPHIA - May 28, 2013 (WPVI) -- The circus comes to town every year but which will you like best? There's the traditional show with acrobats, animals, and the like. But there's also the cutting-edge experience offered by Cirque du Soleil.

The Montreal-based troupe is coming to Camden Thursday with "totem". It's the story of man's development as a species, from simple life by a stream to venturing into space.

Every Cirque show manages to tell a story while an international company of performers dazzles you with amazing feats.

In this case, what appear to be canoeists are actually roller skaters. Acrobats will catapult across a stage-wide framework.

A couple will play out a love story while swinging from a trapeze 40 feet in the air. And Drexel University engineering grad Greg Kennedy, a Philadelphia native will perform his juggling act inside a high-tech cone, using balls that glow in the dark.

He says he uses his college education more in this act than when he worked as an engineer!

Cirque du Soleil is performed in a tent, the venue most used by circuses for centuries.

Cirque's troupe will be on the Camden w waterfront through June 30th.
