Volunteers build playground in just one day

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Volunteers worked to build a playground in just one day in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia.

They arrived around 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Saint Raymond of Penafort Catholic School to make sure kids have a fun place to play.

"Our mission is to help people get care, stay well and build healthy communities. We're out here putting our mission in action," said volunteer Tracye Pou.

AmeriHealth Caritas Partnership and Keystone First teamed up to make the playground happen.

They're doing it because, studies show, that when kids start exercising early they are more likely to continue exercising throughout their lives.

"The playgrounds give them a safe place to play and helps combat childhood obesity," said Michelle Davidson of AmeriHealth Caritas Partnership.

"I think the most fun part is when we are finished and we get to the smiles on those kids faces when they see what was built in less than a day," said volunteer Erinda Como.
