BEAR, Delaware - August 9, 2013 (WPVI) -- A massive roadway project along a stretch of Route 40 in Bear, Delaware got underway Friday.
Crews are replacing an existing railroad crossing just east of Route 72.
Vehicles will be detoured in the area, causing a traffic headache for some commuters.
The closure will also impact some businesses in the area.
"We count on the 36,000 cars per day that drive by our business," said jewelry store owner Ken Scott. "And they are going to be re-routing them until the 26th of August, and we are not looking forward to it at all. I expect a drop in business."
Construction is expected to take place around the clock.
The road will remain closed until August 26th.
