Savannah police say a gunman who barricaded himself in a downtown restaurant in three-hour standoff may have been involved in a botched kidnapping.

Police spokeswoman Gena Sullivan says the gunman was riding in a silver Jaguar a few blocks away Thursday when the driver saw a police officer and jumped out of the car, saying he'd been kidnapped.

Sullivan says the suspect pointed a gun at the officer, who fired a shot at him and missed. The gunman fled to the nearby Olde Pink House restaurant, where he later surrendered to a SWAT team.

Sullivan says the Jaguar's driver told police the gunman forced him drive to an ATM to withdraw money while another man held his son hostage. The boy was found unharmed and a second was suspect arrested.
